Opposition, a poem

In honor of National Poetry Month, I wanted to write at least one poem. When I woke up this morning I had an idea in mind, so I worked with it a while. This poem is the result. I expect it'll change a bit over time. Why not add a poem of your own in comments? Previously published work is fine with me if you hold the copyright and if  it's fine with the poem's publisher.

Opposition
By Laura McHale Holland

good bad up
down life
death heaven
hell in opposition
the world
revolves
inside outside yin
yang hot
cold love
hate to accept
one deny the other
is to capture a flame
with skin
is impossible
smart stupid rich
poor sweet
sour pure
tainted in struggle
perfection lures
an imperfect world

A poem from a different time

Another poem came to mind this morning. It was written by my mother when she was a schoolgirl. Titled "Today," it's a reminder to take constructive action instead of wishing the day away. I think she wrote it to herself. It's especially touching because she could not hear her own message when, as a young mother, she committed suicide. For her, finding value in the day she ended her life must have been like trying to grasp fire with skin. I don't have the poem on hand right now, but when I find it, I'll post it here.

Note: I've removed pictures from this post and others created around the same time, because that's when this site began loading very slowly. No one has been able to figure out why. I've changed all kinds of things, including my web host. Now I'm going to see if deleting pictures posted when the problem began will help.
