Hostage on a Barge

Hostage on a Barge
By Laura McHale Holland

The tuplip ate my skin. No lie. Insides exposed, I felt curiously steamy, ready to dart somewhere smooth, but where? Words dribbled away, all gone, leaving me no escape, like a hostage on a barge lost at sea. The world, a rusty leaf blower, bobbed, sputtered, spewed lies and barked.

I used a prompt from Meg Pokrass, a micro fiction writer extraordinaire, to create this story. The words she suggested were tulip, smooth, steamy, dart, skin. The situation was “a character who believes they are fenced in (but maybe they’re not).” Find our more about Meg at https://megpokrass.com.

I limited the story to 50 words, and when finished, hopped over to Night Cafe and made an AI image to go with it.
