Thanks, Robin. I hadn't thought of "The Gift of the Magi" in a long while. Some lessons apply to every age, no? Now I must hop on over to your website and have a look.

More truer words never spoken. It amazes me how much money is spent on Valentine's Day. Where a full course dinner's price spikes for that one day, and for what you're getting the same dinner you would any other day. The price of roses spike and for what, the simple supply and demand equation which on any other day would be considerably lower. The same goes for chocolate.
Why can't we remember the lesson from O. Henry's, "The Gift of The Magi". Where the wife, Della, sells her long flowing hair to buy her husband, Jim, an expensive fob chain for his gold watch; and he sells his gold watch to buy her an expensive array of combs for her long. What is left after each of their sacrificial gifts are exchanged is the love they have for each other.
Perhaps everyone should merely accept the love for each other and leave the material things for another day.

BTW - I got a new website,

Thanks, for your feedback, Robin. I'm not sure where the impetus for this one came from, but it is a bit different. It's such a rich journey just seeing where the imagination takes us if we let it.

Lovely to hear from you again, Robin! Four weeks on a grand jury ... what an experience that must have been. I hope you'll be able to use it in your creative writing someday. A heel spur sounds painful; at least a shot can ease the pain. Ah, these dear bodies of ours. When things go wrong, it can turn a person on her/his head.

What a change!!! Instead of the slight romance overtone as I've read in most of your flashes, I read something that is now science fiction with an overtone of survival [which is another underlining theme of most of your flashes]. Here we have a story of survival following the impact of a meteor into earth. The "sole" survival feels guilt and wishes he/she could take the entire town [every nail and board of wood] back into the past where no one thought of the possibility of "this impact" happening.

Glad to see you're able to at least hobble around. I know how it must feel like, as I wind up having to do just that, hobble around when my heel spur flares up. The solution is getting a shot of cortisone deep into my heel by my foot doctor, The only other solution is surgery, an ordeal which would incapacitate me for a good while.

Sorry I haven't commented for a while had four weeks of grand jury. Lost time in writing of YA paranormal/time travel/ first kiss manuscript. Will try to go back and comment on those I missed

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Chris. I'm lucky to know you. I have noticed during this bad spell how much all my life I've either been rush, rush, rushing or totally depleted and seeking to recover from all the rushing, and then when I'm feeling a little better, I rush off again. I hope I'll be able to be more present in the moment going forward.

Dear Laura... what can I say. Injury is so instructive. We slow down. We remember. Your writing is full of the remembering; moving quickly like a child, and slowly like your grandmother. I have often thought that my time dealing with cancer made me a fuller person... in touch with what mattered and appreciative of what I had. Perhaps slowing down (as long as you recover!) will only add to your wonderful introspection and connection to people and the world around you. As always, I look forward to more of your writing.
